PAINTING THE POETRY OF LANDSCAPE - VENUE 286

Painting the Poetry of Landscape: From Constable to Monet

Saturday 30th May (full day workshop) 10am - 3pm

Cost: £65pp

Artist Tutor: Fernando Velázquez

Step into the world of two of the most celebrated painters in the History of Art and explore the evolution of landscape art in this inspiring and immersive workshop. From the expressive naturalism of John Constable to the luminous atmosphere of Claude Monet, this workshop invites you to develop your own artistic voice while learning from the masters.

Designed for everyone, from complete beginners to experienced artists, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to study, practice, and create in a relaxed and supportive environment. Through guided sessions, you will explore the full artistic journey: from initial sketching and observation to the development of finished pieces.

You will delve into:
• The foundations of colour theory and how it shapes mood and light
• Key painting techniques used by Constable and Monet
• The transition from structured realism to expressive impressionism
• Developing your own personal visual language inspired by the masters

By closely studying selected works, you will gain insight into how these artists responded to the British landscape and beyond, transforming what they saw into something deeply personal and timeless. You will then create your own responses, guided by both tradition and experimentation.

The workshop is led by Fernando Velázquez, a Spanish painter based in Dorset and Head of Art at Sherborne Preparatory School. With extensive experience in education and a distinguished international exhibiting career, Fernando brings both technical expertise and a passion for nurturing creativity in others.

Whether you are picking up a brush for the first time or looking to deepen your artistic practice, this workshop offers a unique blend of learning, inspiration, and creative exploration.

£65pp inclusive of acrylic paints, pastels, brushes, aprons. You are also encouraged to bring your own preferred materials if you wish, along with an A4 or A3 mixed media sketchbook and an optional canvas for more developed work. Teas and coffees are provided. You should bring a packed lunch on the day.
