DORSET ART WEEKS 2022 DIRECTORY • 4 If you hanker after a bit of joy and exuberant colour in your life, head towards Shaftesbury, where you will find PERCY LIZZARD’s bird paintings (Venue 54). The bird motifs reference the simple shapes and block colours used by both Picasso and Matisse. ROB WOOLNER (Venue 24) continues his long association with Dorset Art Weeks, sharing the secrets of his textured paintings and processes with visitors. His work is both contemplative and thought provoking, always giving up more to see as you live with them. DORSET COPPICE GROUP (Venue 65) is a collective that attracts members from all areas of the UK who celebrate rural crafts, keeping these traditional methods and country ways alive for future generations. Accompanying examples of coppicing are hand-woven baskets, turned wood and other examples referencing the use of wood. NORRIE DE MONTIGNY (Venue 15) works with pieces of ceramic to make composite repetitive installations. A more conventional use of clay as a material can be seen in MARTIN DICKSON’s elegant spare stoneware with geometric patterning (Venue 25). It hints at both Japanese influences and De Stijl. ANNE-LOUISE BELLIS’s land and seascape paintings using gold leaf complement Dickson’s pots. As you head west, don’t miss ANDREW DUMOLO’s beautiful hardwood furniture (Venue 183), large sculptural pots by BJÖRK HARALDSDÓTTIR (Venue 229), and AMANDA POPHAM’s delightfully quirky ceramic figures (Venue 232). Nestling in the hills in rural Hewood are the studios of BRIAN RICE and JACY WALL (Venue 230). Brian is currently producing stunning new paintings, and he will also be showing a range of his early seminal prints from the sixties. Jacy’s lovely small For a glimpse of what the younger generation is doing, visit BRYANSTON SCHOOL (Venue 66), where students, across all age ranges, are showing their impressively accomplished work alongside that of their tutors. At DOWER HOUSE (Venue 34), VICTORIA JARDINE is showing a selection of beautiful duck egg blue and pale turquoise glazed pots. She pierces her beautifully elegant forms and stitches thread through them, referencing the making process, perfection and wounds. At the same venue you will find tableware by POLLY CAZALET, paintings by MARK RUSSELL, and sculpture by JANE SHAW. Nearby are landscape paintings by KIM PRAGNELL (Venue 62) and stylised paintings of buildings and rows of houses by SARAH JACK (Venue 38). GEORGINA WOOD (Venue 68) is a printmaker who also makes eye- catching ink drawings with striking fluid lines.
